I was tagged by @voidslantern , thank you, dear! 😘
Three Fandoms:
1. Mass Effect
2. Doctor Who
3. Assassin’s Creed
The First Character You Loved:
1. Garrus Vakarian. Love from a first talk.
2. Ninth Doctor in the episode "Dalek"
3. Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad
The Character You Never Expected To Love So Much:
1. Miranda Lawson. Her story and the choices she makes, and also her strength amaze me.
2. Rose Tyler. I can't say I disliked her, no, but at first I had nothing to grip at in her. Then, in time, her kind heart and adventurous soul have shown themselves, and I fell in love with her. She is my favourite Doctor Who companion of all the newschool DW.
3. Ezio Auditore. His path was laid in darkness and had so many mistakes, but up to his last journey he found the essence of the Creed and walked a way of assassin leader. I respect him greatly for this.
The Character You Relate To The Most:
1. I wish it was Shepard, but no, there's so much to learn for me to be at least partly like Shepard... The most of me is in Garrus Vakarian: "So many things in my life went wrong", we have similar life principles, we both were betrayed in our lives, we both hope to do some good in this life despite how hard it is, we both have rebellion souls, we both wish there was more justice in this life.
2. The Doctor. Ninth particularly. I've had my hard times, I've got a hole in my chest just like he has. I wish it took some Rose Tyler to heal that hole, but I don't know. Maybe in real life those holes aren't healed with people.
3. Guess there isn't a character in AC that I can relate.
The Character You’d Slap:
1. Kaidan. Horizon mission. Please, man, just listen to Shepard, trust her as you did before!
2. Of RTD era? Martha Jones. Okay, I can understand that love not always comes in convenient time and not always with the right people, but goddamit, Doctor has just lost the one he loved and who he died for once, could you pleeease be more careful about Doctor's feelings?
And of Moffat era - Clara. There are lots of things I'd slap her for, but the moment when she has thrown the keys into lava, she died for me. I don't care that Doctor cares about her so much to forgive her for that. I love him. And I don't let anyone hurt the ones I love. Clara almost left Doctor without his life and his home. She demanded him to rewrite the timelines which is the worst thing to do as there's a danger of paradoxes (the fact that after that time Doctor messed with time freely is BAD WRITING). There's no excuse for treating Doctor with such a cruelty. He deserved for a better companion and friend.
3. Connor Kenway. For Haytham. For hot-headedly made decisions.
Three Favorite Characters (in order of preference):
1. Shepard, Garrus, Liara
2. Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Tenth Doctor
3. Ezio Auditore, Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad, Haytham Kenway
A Character You Liked At First, But Don’t Anymore:
1. Tali. Idk why, maybe there's something to do with Freedom's Progress meeting. Shepard not only needed help of an experienced soldier - she needed a friend (though she'd never admit that), a person she could trust. Tali wasn't there for her. I understand why, but I do not accept it - because my heart hurt for Shepard then.
2. There isn't such a character in all RTD era. I never liked any of Moffat's companions. Something about writing.
3. Connor.
A Character You Didn’t Like At First But Do Now:
1. Miranda Lawson. She pissed me off so much at my first ME walkthrough! But then, in time, when we spoke enough and it became clear why she seems so uppity at the meeting, I understood why she has such an attitude. And due to her decisions in ME2 I knew what person she really is, so she earned my respect and love.
And Jack. She's amazing. Of course she behaves in ME2 like a cutthroat bitch, but well, there were reasons for that and she worked much on becoming more like normal human.
2. Martha Jones. She's good. I don't like her much, but she made great things and sacrificed much for tge Doctor.
3. Ezio Auditore. His path of bloodshed and anarchy in AC2 was pointless. But in ACB he becomes a clever leader and in ACR he finally learns what the Creed is really about. That's where, in the last game, he earns my love.
Three OTPs:
1. FemShep/Garrus Vakarian (I don't know how I lived without this beautiful pairing!!!), Liara/Javik (from her side at first, then mutual, lol), Joker/EDI
2. Ninth Doctor/Rose Tyler, Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler, Thirteenth Doctor/Rose Tyler (I don't give a damn that it's almost impossible, it just has happened inside my head and I can't stop this train anymore, lol)
3. Altaïr/Maria, Ezio/Sofia, Desmond/Lucy
I'm tagging: @shepurdvakarian, @tarysande, @illusivesoul

Well then.

Yeah six weeks late eh? Whatever. I was busy. Oh and that’s an actual New Years Card I sent to a pal from way back who lives here in Japan not so far away. As opposed to Xmas Cards, New Years Cards (nengajō) are commonplace (more like hyperfuckingallovertheplace) here. Anyway. I wonder if any postal workers even noticed. Hmmmm.

SO I have this small humidifier I use during the winter here, cheap deal, with an RGB LED in the base that you can set to one of like ten colors, or it can set to cycle through the colors either smoothly transitioning or suddenly jumping from one color to the next. Winters are REALLY dry here, so a small humidifier is almost a must-have item, especially for people like me who grew up in sub-tropical climates. I wanted to use this adapter to test out a power supply I built for a project I’m working on that has three power lines (12v, 9v and 5v) supplied by three regulators. As you can see in the above photo, the Input is for AC 100V 50/60Hz, which is the standard in Japan. the Output says DC 24VC 650mA. SAYS. It was fucking AC!!! I was scratching my goddam head for about ten minutes trying to figure out what the flying hell was going on, and then when I hooked it up to my multimeter, set the thing to test DC Voltage, the display showed numbers that were cycling. Are you fucking shitting me? Switch it to read AC and guess what? Solid 24V. The bottom line there on the sticker says Rated output: 12VA. Huh? I generally don’t trust shit made in china for a variety of reasons, from personal experiences with quick-to-fail or dead-from-the-factory products, to questionable ethical and environmental practices both at the factories themselves and by the companies that choose to base production in those factories (ESPECIALLY companies that should damn well know better and still be making shit in their own home countries providing jobs to their own citizens). This is my major beef with behringer. TONS of hype about the new clones they’re releasing. Yay! Finally the average Joe can afford a real analog synth or two or three! Whoopee! No need to shell out the ridiculous big bucks people are trying to sell the classic machines for anymore! There are some people out there whose musical work I really respect, who (unfortunately, to me) are sucking the behringer schlong so hardcore deep-throat style they probably shit Uli spunk. Maybe that’s a harsh thing to say, but people, do you NOT have experience nor memory of the “quality” of behringer products over the past two freaking decades? Ethical business practice is something Uli has obviously never heard of, I mean first it was blatant copies of Mackie mixers, now copies, oh no sorry, ‘clones’ or ‘tributes’ or whatever PC-ish terminology they wanna use, of whatever synth or drum machine whose patent has expired. Anyway maybe it is a good thing because people who otherwise would never have the chance to play one of the real deals thanks to price-gouging by the greedy fucks selling the originals can fairly easily afford to buy a clone. But I am still very skeptical. The originals, when well-maintained and properly taken care of, are still going strong even now, some almost 40 years old (some even older). I have my doubts as to whether the clones will last even a tenth of that, but I may be wrong, and if so, I’ll say “I was wrong, goddamit, they did a good job after all.”

Electronics advice: MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR WORK AREA FLOOR FOR CUT OFF COMPONENT LEGS THAT MAY HAVE ROLLED OFF YOUR WORKBENCH. AND DON’T WORK BAREFOOT. YYEEEEEEEEEOOOOWCH!!! Yeah that was an unpleasant experience I don’t wish to repeat anytime soon.
I wonder if I posted about the MPC-500 I got and souped up. I think I did. I had some time over the winter break so I thought I’d try to get up to speed with how to run the thing, given the unavoidable differences it has with the other MPCs thanks to the smaller screen size. I put a green on black OLED in, which was a spare I had in the parts bin, and magically it was a perfect drop-in replacement for the stock display (that NEVER happens). But suddenly one time it went completely dark right in the middle of noodling with a sequence and I was like WHAT?! Cycled the power and the display would come on and off intermittently. Hmmm probably a loose connection. So I took it apart and played with the display connector and sure enough that was it. I found the wiring that goes from the main PCB to the display connector had been wire-tied down to a hole on the main PCB, so I snipped that tie and gained a bit of play, which helped. Then I hot-glued the connector to the header pins I put on the OLED. So far it’s been working fine. Here’s a photo of the area in question:

Some changes in the Collection of Nefarious Machinery are going on. I’m selling off stuff I bought on impulse and touched a few times then neglected, mostly. But also some things that I bought because I really thought I wanted them in the setup again but now that a few months have passed I realize are kinda redundant. This shit never ends.
I picked up a DX7IID recently for a pretty good price. So far, I’ve been SUPER FUCKING HAPPY with it. There is a site that hosts a goddam shit-ton of sounds for the whole series, and there are some real gems in there! Really made me overhaul my thoughts about what FM synthesis is all about. But, a few weeks ago I was fooling around and noticed the top two keys weren’t responding. Tried to wiggle them around to see if it was a bad connection and ended up pulling them out of their sockets and jarring the spring loose so the keys just dangled there. Jeez are you kidding me? So I took it apart and reassembled those two keys. A little time-consuming but not a big deal in the end.

Hope everyone out there in Internetland is having fun. Til next time...

Hey you ever get the urge to just write a scene? Yep me too. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney spoilers below the cut. Does anyone care anymore about a game that old? Idk but I’m being cautious. Yep.
She didn’t like it when Phoenix went to meet Kristoph Gavin. She understood why he did it and what purpose it played in his investigation, but… it always made her uneasy. He wasn’t to be trusted. Sitting across from the man who had had him disbarred…
“You know the saying, babe. ‘Keep your friends close…’.” A tilt of his head and that easy-going smile, shoulders lifting in a shrug. “I’ll be fine.”
“Mm. I know. I just…” A hand slid into his, holding him back from heading for the door. “I don’t like it. I feel more anxious than usual.” Like something is going to happen. She lifted his knuckles to her lips. “Please be careful tonight.”
“I will, Lenora. I promise.” He pulled her into his arms, giving her a tight squeeze. “I’ll be home before you know it.”
“Okay. I’ve an early meeting tomorrow, so I can’t wait up for you. But wake me when you get in?”
“All right. See you tonight.”
She didn’t wake until next morning – in their bed, alone. That’s how she knew something was wrong.
She couldn’t see him. If somebody caught her and word got around that she knew the defendant, they wouldn’t let her work on the case. And god help whoever attempted to keep her hands off of this case.
There was actually very little forensic work to be done, outside of some fingerprinting (his fingerprints were on the supposed murder weapon, goddamit) and the autopsy report. It wasn’t really her place, but she managed to intimidate her way into being the one to deliver it. Nobody asked why when the Ice Queen of Forensics was so insistent.
April 20, 9: 58AM District Court Courtroom No. 2
Half the seats of the gallery had been filled. The judge would enter the room any moment now. The prosecution and the defense were at their benches. The bailiffs had yet to escort the defendant – her husband – in.
She entered the courtroom, one palm pressing the smooth double doors open just enough to make her way through. In the other hand two manilla folders dangled loosely between her fingers, contents smooth and crisp and clear within. Heels clicked loudly across the tile floor, causing a few heads to turn in her direction. She didn’t care who looked her way, though. Gaze remained steady and far-off as she approached Winston Payne, fighting down the urge to comment on his ridiculous hair.
“The autopsy report,” she indicated quietly, voice low and nearly empty in tone as she placed it on the desk. Before he could get out a thank you, she turned on her heel and walked across the room to the defense bench.
Kristoph Gavin offered her a polite smile. She returned him a frosty gaze, instead handing the second manilla folder to his protege – Apollo Justice, the young man who was actually defending Phoenix. Like Payne, he seemed a more than a bit daunted as he accepted it, voice strained as he puffed out his own 'thank you.’
She stared at him for half a moment before turning to head back out of the courtroom. As luck would have it, the bailiffs escorted the defendant in right at this moment.
Phoenix. He didn’t look much worse for wear, which was comforting. In fact, he looked confident as ever – he even gave her a cheeky little wink when their eyes met. It nearly crumbled her facade.
You didn’t come home, she wanted to say. You promised you’d be careful and here you are. In the defendant’s chair again, you absolute walking disaster. Trucy is worried. I’m worried. I want to kiss you and I can’t even do that, you infuriating man, and all you can do is stand there and look at me like nothing’s at risk. You can’t do this to me.
But they only had a brief moment as she passed him to exchange any unspoken words. So instead of being upset, she gave him the softest look – Please come home this time. I love you. – before continuing out of the courtroom.
It was agony, but she didn’t have a reason to stay. She could idle in the library until it was over, say she was staying on site in case they needed forensic counsel, but really… she just wanted her husband back.
“He hit you.” “Yeah. I’m fine, though.” “I want to hit you, too.” “Do you?” He was grinning. He leaned forward, tapping his cheek – the one that wasn’t slightly bruised from Apollo Justice’s recent assault. “Go ahead. Right there.” “You…” She choked, grabbing at his collar and yanking him down to kiss him instead. Broke it off after a few moments, whimpering, “You’re the worst – I was so scared, Phoenix! What if – what if that kid didn’t figure it out?! What if something went wrong? God, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you…!” “You’re not going to lose me, Lenora. I’m not going anywhere,” Smirk fading for a more genuine look, he took hold of her face and brushed away her tears with his thumbs. “I’m sorry for worrying you. I didn’t exactly intend for it to happen. But it all turned out right in the end, didn’t it?” She leaned into his hold, nodding faintly as her palms came up to rest on his chest, “Yeah… I didn’t hear how it ended, though. You weren’t found guilty. So what happened?” “…Let’s talk about it on the way home.” His hands fell and moved to entwine with hers, slowly leading her towards the door. Paused. “Or do you have to go back to work?” “No. I suddenly found myself with a dreadful case of food poisoning.” She smiled faintly. How could she work after a day like this? “Let’s go. Tell me everything.”
